Many women seek the advice and counsel of a trusted plastic surgeon about their enlarged, uneven, pigmented or disproportionate labia majora and minora. The results can be truly amazing.
For some women with enlarged or excess labial tissue, sexual intercourse can be painful and wearing certain clothing can be uncomfortable. For our patients in Reston labiaplasty can include working on the inner and/or the outer labia, depending on the patient preference. Female genital reshaping is cosmetic by nature and can result in beautiful, lasting results. It has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries for women in the United States.
Consulting with one of our plastic surgeons to perform this delicate surgery is the optimal course of action. At your consultation, one of our highly-trained plastic surgeons will discuss your goals and ideal 'look' after surgery.
The surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure. Following a labiaplasty Reston patients typically take pain medication for only a few days and are comfortable with our postop regimen of non-narcotic medications and ice. Restrictions include no sex or insertion into the vagina including tampons for 6 weeks. The sutures used are dissolvable.
After a labiaplasty Reston patients should avoid tight clothing so that the area can appropriately recover.
Scarring following labiaplasty is usually unnoticeable. Symptoms such as chronic irritations and sexual discomfort may be eliminated completely after surgery. This surgery allows for the vaginal area to look and feel normal, giving women their self-confidence and health back.
Stop living with the pain, discomfort, and embarrassment of an enlarged, pigmented or asymmetric labia. Labiaplasty surgery targets cosmetic and functional concerns associated with the inner and/or outer labia. While labiaplasty surgery may result tighter labia and a somewhat tighter vaginal opening, it does not alter the inner vaginal canal. If you have concerns about vaginal atrophy, prolapse, or other concerns regarding the vaginal canal, talk to your doctor about what surgical options may be available to you.
In most cases, patients should plan to wait at least six weeks before resuming sexual intercourse, tampon use, and other activities. During your postoperative follow-up appointments at Austin-Weston, your surgeon will closely monitor your healing and recovery progress and let you know when it is safe to return to your normal routines, including sexual activity, exercise, and tampon use.
Absolutely. There is nothing about labiaplasty surgery that would prevent you from getting pregnant or giving birth. However, patients should keep in mind that a vaginal delivery after a labiaplasty may "undo" the results of the surgery or cause new changes to the appearance of the labia, leading to the need for a repeat/revision procedure to restore your desired look once again. When possible, patients are encouraged to wait until they are done having children to undergo labiaplasty surgery.
