Love Your Reflection
Our team of plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, VA, offer neck lift surgery to men and women who wish to refine their lower facial profile. A neck lift procedure can dramatically reduce the signs of aging and improve the overall appearance of the face. Sagging skin, fat deposits, and loss of elasticity can detract from the lifted and contoured appearance associated with a youthful jawline. A neck lift performed by our highly skilled Reston plastic surgeons can help take years off of your appearance and highlight the attractiveness of your facial features.
Reframe Your Features
As we age, fat deposits and wrinkles accumulate around the neck, our skin loses collagen and begins to sag. The neck is often the first part of the face to show signs of aging.
For patients with excellent skin elasticity and a moderate amount of fat under the neck, neck liposuction alone can be a good solution. However, once the skin begins to sag or hang, or if your surgeon thinks the skin will be loose after just liposuction, a surgical incision is needed to remove this excess skin, and that procedure is known as a neck lift. Through this incision, excess neck skin and fat can be repositioned, and the muscles can also be tightened if necessary. This is sometimes called a corset platysmaplasty. The concept behind this is using sutures in the neck to tighten the neck muscles like a corset.
Sculpted Elegance
Non-surgical procedures can only do so much when it comes to treating signs of aging. With a neck lift Reston patients can achieve more comprehensive results because it can address both the overlying skin and underlying tissues. This means your outcomes last far longer than conventional treatments. Additionally, our trained surgeons can correct a number of cosmetic concerns at the same time. A neck lift at our facility can provide the following benefits:

Classic Lines
Your surgeon will discuss the details of your individual surgery ahead of time, including what to expect regarding anesthesia, the duration of the procedure, and recovery. The placement and size of incisions may depend on factors like skin quality, facial structure, and the patient’s desired aesthetic outcome.
The traditional approach is to begin the incision at the hairline and continue it around the ear. Alternatively, a limited-incision neck lift only involves incisions around the ear. A neck lift may involve removing or redistributing fat from the jowls and neck, repositioning the underlying tissue, and tightening the platysma muscle. Excess skin is trimmed, and the remaining skin is adjusted to fit the neck's new contours. In some cases, an additional incision under the chin is made for liposuction or muscle repair. The incisions are then closed using sutures. Once healed, incisions are typically well-hidden within the hairline and the contours of the ears.
Emerge Refined
We will monitor you in a recovery room to ensure your comfort immediately after your procedure as the anesthesia begins wearing off. A gentle bandage may be applied to your face and neck to mitigate post-procedure swelling and bruising. Your surgeon will provide detailed instructions on post-operative care. Swelling, bruising, discomfort, and a tight feeling in the neck are normal during the early recovery stage. These symptoms will be greatly improved after about two weeks, but residual swelling may take a few months to subside completely. It is important to follow your surgeon’s directions for aftercare and attend all follow-up appointments to ensure an excellent recovery.
Look Years Younger
As post-operative swelling and bruising diminish, the results of your neck lift will become apparent. The neck area will appear more sculpted, athletic, and youthful. The jawline will have a more “snatched” appearance, accentuating your neck and lower face. Taking good care of your skin, including practicing careful sun protection, will help you maintain and enjoy your beautiful results for many years.
A neck lift and a facelift address different areas. The neck lift focuses on improving the appearance of the area under the chin down to the collarbone, reducing excess skin and fat, and tightening loose neck muscles. Conversely, a facelift targets the mid to lower face, addressing sagging facial skin, jowls, and loose neck skin while also reducing the appearance of deep creases. A mid-face lift is a more targeted procedure focusing on the cheeks and middle region of the face. A neck lift and facelift are often performed together, depending on the individual's needs and aesthetic objectives, to achieve comprehensive facial and neck rejuvenation.
The natural aging process will, of course, continue in the neck. However, the effects of a neck lift are typically long-lasting, with many years of improvement possible, especially when combined with good skincare and a healthy lifestyle.
